Festival Ballet Providence

Up Close on Hope
On the cusp of his twentieth year as the visionary leader of Festival Ballet Providence, Mihailo Djuric’s beloved Magnificat returns to the stage. Set to J. S. Bach’s vibrant and joyful cantata, the ensemble work is made up of contrasting movements with a contemporary style inspired by Balkan folk elements.

The mixed repertory program features world premiere works by Mary Ellen Beaudreau and others.

Defiance! is a multi-media solo Staged Reading depicting the life of Nancy Elizabeth Prophet, African American Narragansett-Pequot, 1st graduate of color from Rhode Island School of Design, 1918. Prophet welcomes you to her salon where she recounts from her notes, her struggles, success, excerpts of letters, diary, philosophy, passion, determination, and of her dear friend W.E.B. Du Bois, all amidst projected images of her sculpture. Defiance! is written and brilliantly portrayed by Sylvia Ann Soares. An original member of Trinity Repertory, Sylvia Ann has performed in NY, LA, film, TV, in regional theatres and on national tours.
