Do you feel that chill in the air in the morning? Autumn is on it’s way. I feel like a liar saying that while it’s 79 degrees out as I type this, but there are dead leaves in my back yard so there’s that. Here are some things to read and listen to if you have time. Have a good weekend!
∙ Let’s get a big EEK out of the way- Ambitious Rhode Island music fest ends in failure of ‘epic proportions’ Organizing a festival or convention is a big undertaking, ask Billy McFarland.
∙ Amy Beach, a Pioneering American Composer, Turns 150 … when I studied music history in college I learned about mostly male composers. Whether or not there weren’t as many female composers in the past, I just knew I wasn’t aware of as many of them as I should have. Nowadays I look out for articles like this. Because girl power.
∙ BUT, I also didn’t learn of many composers and musicians of color either. Thanks to the amazing people I follow on Twitter, I just found out about Chevalier de Saint-Georges, the first classical composer of African ancestry. Listen to this violin concerto, you’re gonna love it.
∙ Even as a music-lover going to concerts of any kind is still a luxury to me. I can’t justify paying over a hundred bucks for a single ticket unless it’s for a festival. Thankfully the bands I like don’t demand much and I rarely pay over $40 a pop. I’m excited to see MUTEMATH in New Haven tonight because I like their music and I only paid $22 to go. Here’s a song from their latest album-
∙ FYI– Who Are The Juggalos And Why Are They Marching In Washington, D.C.? – Just a head’s up in case you’re planning to wander around the Capitol and aren’t aware of who the Insane Clown Posse is.
