My Word for 2018

My Word for 2018: FINISH

I’m laughing at myself right now. I am NOTORIOUS for being a procrastinator that I’ve gone so far as to start new posts here in February. I seriously had to take the whole month of January to sort myself out. I’m sorry, I’m a mess! But this is okay! I’m okay! I’m moving along!

If you’re still here with me, thank you.

So first things first I wanted to write something a little personal. Remember a month ago when people in the social media world were talking about designating a single word to help them focus to get what they want accomplished for the next year? I think it’s been done for a few years now but I’ve disregarded it as a task worth doing. Well, I’m going to stop raining on your parades and do it for myself.

My word for 2018 is FINISH.

I’d like to finish

  • the undergrad studies I started years ago. I didn’t graduate then because I didn’t know what I wanted to do after that. Having a kid was a bit of a relief because it allowed me to take a break and get out into the real world to find out what I really wanted for a career. Now that I have a trajectory I feel more motivated to continue this educational journey and actually start doing things I enjoy enough to get paid to do it.
  • the books I started reading. They’re waiting patiently on the bookshelf for me. You know those “Buy 2 Get the 3rd Free” sales at the book store? I got roped into a bunch of those. It even pains me to walk by books at the library knowing I won’t be able to get to them at the moment.
  • decorating our house. I don’t intend to do this for the ‘gram and show you a house tour, but I’d like to at least make as much of our house nice to sit in. I painted some walls but haven’t hung up any shelves or artwork. I want to look at a wall and admire some knick knacks for goodness sakes. My home will always be a work in progress but I just want it to look like the progress is closer to complete than just moved in. You know? So maybe expect future Instagram shots taken at Home Depot…

Honestly, that’s it. I’m trying to make it easy for myself. I suck at multitasking and get overwhelmed easily so I’m doing myself a favor. All of these goals require multiple steps throughout the year so they should be manageable. We’ll see! Meet you back here in a year and I’ll let you know if keeping a single word for 2018 helped me accomplish my goals.
